Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals
June 16th 2007 5:45 PM Central What Stage, Bonnaroo Manchester, Tennessee Recorded with an Edirol R-09 by Roland. Recorded in 24 Bit 48 khz WAV format. Edited in Peak LE 4 (massive amounts of editing...gain changes to bring songs up to reasonable volume, fade outs on a few tracks, cut out silent times, and anything I could do to make it sound better) Recorded in the middle of pit. And that noise is from the PA, not my fault. Also, the first bar is missing from the first track. I woke up 15 minutes before the show ran down there and pulled the recorder out of my pocket. 01. With My Own Two Hands 02. Ground On Down 03. Forgiven 04. Gold to Me 05. Please Don't Talk About Murder While Im Eating 06. Diamonds on the Inside 07. Diamonds on the Inside reprise* 08. Steal My Kisses 09. Don't take that Attitude to Your Grave* 10. Waiting for You 11. Dazed and Confused with John Paul Jones* 12. Black Rain 13. Black Rain reprise 14. Burn One Down 15. Band Introductions 16. Get Up Stand Up with Ziggy Marley 17. Better Way *AWESOME Recorded and brought to you by Grey Culver aka Vitamin G Reason: Forgot the icon |

I can't figure out how to show these images on the board.
First picture is the band from where I was recording. Second picture is Leon and I Third is the awesomest sign I ever saw at a concert...but security told them to put it down. Bonnaroo is going downhill quick... There are mad rules now. ![]() |

Was rushing to get this up. Somehow forgot to transfer to FLAC.
If this is really a problem for anyone I'll re-do it. I didn't catch it till ther were allready peers, so I figure I'll leave it the way it is for now. |

.. is that the best you can do ... Only recording my 3 FAVORITE SHOWS OF THE WEEKEND?!!!
![]() Thanks for the JBT, Ben & Superjam. And I agree, hearing JPJ (with Ben & ?eust) bust into Zep after Zep was definitely a thrill. He looks great and he's still got it, eh? Thanks again & God bless you. |

Your three favorite shows???
My three favorite shows!! The three best shows! Only one I really wish I had gotten that I didn't was the Rodrigo y Gabriella. Bonnaroo!!! Sorry if the uplad is a lil slow, Im the only seed right now and my total upload wont go more than 40 kbps. But Ill leave it running most of the day, except when I need to post or check my email. Or give my external a break. Im seeding off my brand new 1TB Western Digital drive. I got a hepa filter blowing on it, but it is new and I don't like the idea of the disc spinning 24/7. |

Not to disparage the recording (it's pretty good, thanks!), but I've noticed some things in the audio that I was wondering about. They happen infrequently, but there are little sections (the first of which is near the beginning of "Ground On Down" and another is in "Dazed and Confused") where there's like an audio blip, where the audio is either repeating or reversed or something. My files check out, so it's something else. Is that in your original?
*edit* I just was wondering, as I do the db.etree.org section for Ben Harper, are you planning on adding this source, or may I? I try and keep the site as up to date as possible with all the newest shows and info on taped shows that I can find. If you don't mind me adding it, I'd appreciate as much info on your recording setup as possible (ie., what mics, internal, etc.). I'm also unsure as to how to go about adding md5's for the show, since most material on there is already in FLAC/SHN. I'm not sure, but if I encode this into FLAC and make an .ffp file, will it work for everyone who downloaded the same .wav's from you, or not? Also, the two files you have labeled "Diamonds reprise" and "Black Rain reprise" are actually both covers. The first is "Tomorrow is a Long Time" by Bob Dylan, which Ben played solo-acoustic after Diamonds. The second is "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" by Marvin Gaye, which Ben then slides back into Black Rain at the end. Again, great recording! Reason: adding a question & adding setlist info |

Yeah that blip is on my end. The Edirol R-09 isn't much bigger than a cellphone. Im not a real taper with mics on poles and DAT tapes et cetera. Im just a music junkie that has a handheld recorder with a four GB SD card in it. I could never be a REAL taper in the back. I gotta be up front, which makes this $400 recorder my style. Sorry if it aint perfect, but I think it is still mad worth it.
Look at what I just posted on the superjam thread. But I figure that my end isn't much worse than the sound guy at the show. In the begining of Dazed and Confused, Bens mic wasnt turned up. And on "Diamonds reprise" (I didn't know what else to call it) you can hear that constant hum coming out of the PA cause I really had to beef up on gain for that track. I remember being in the pit and that sound driving into my skull the whole show. I tried to put this on BT eTree, but didnt understand the computer aspect of what that site wants for someone to upload. PLEASE put it on there. All I ask is due credit. "Recorded by Grey Culver aka Vitamin G" should stay with this file. Throw greyculver@mac.com in somewhere too. Thank you for helping me share it. ![]() Reason: i cant spell |

Dude If I had know you exised I just would have mailed you the wavs and let you do all this. All I do is hit the rec button on my R-09. http://www.edirol.net/products/en/R-09/ (go to the edirol site and look at the thing i recorded this with). Then I came home and tried to figure out how to make a torrent. With the R-09 just using the built in mic I had to learn to be quite during the show. You can hear me say "look how far that cloud of smoke goes" during burn1down. Im the loud yeah after Mr nelson introduction. Hard for me to record a show up in the pit and try to be quite and not cheer or clap. If I cheer, it is all you can hear in the recording, and the recorder is taking up one of my hands so I can't clap. I knew about makes me wanna hollar, but i didnt know what to call it since it is technically in the middle of black rain. And it seems to me Ben knows he has to give some credit (if not legal then spiritual) credit for black rain to Mr Gaye. And (see the next paragraph) i had allready done it for the song i thought was a new one and didnt know what to call it. I DIDNT know that thing in diamonds was a robert zimmerman song. GOOD TO KNOW!! I just thought it was some new words he had nothing else to do with. Thanks for enlightening me. That song really hit home for me, i need to find the original. Do whatever you want with this. Ill be happy as long as Grey Culver, Vitamin G and greyculver@mac.com stay with the files as taper and original editor. You seem to know a whole lot more about this torrent thing than I do. I just use this site cause this is where I got all but one of radioheads shows from their tour last year luckily i was at the one show i couldnt find), and I know how to work it. I tried to add it to BTeTree and couldnt figure it out. |

Hey man, I didn't mean to come off as complaining! I really appreciate the tapes, trust me. And I know what you mean about recording. I really should do it myself, but I was in the front at both the SuperJam (I was sitting there for 4 hours) and in the middle of the pit at the Harper show. So I understand where you're coming from. THANK YOU so much for taping at all. The only reason I was pointing that out was that nobody had mentioned it, and since I'd had the problems with the flac version of the SuperJam, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't another thing on my end of the problem again.
And about the "Black Rain/Inner City Blues/Black Rain" thing, that's usually how I'd mark it. I mean, here's my entries for both shows on etree's site: BHIC: http://db.etree.org/lookup_show.php?shows_key=373025 SuperJam: http://db.etree.org/lookup_show.php?shows_key=372994 The text file I made to go with your BHIC show reads as follows: ------------------------------- Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals What Stage Bonnaroo Music Festival Manchester, TN 06/16/2007 Source: Edirol R-09 @ 24/48 Transfer: Peak LE 4 (massive editing) Location: Front Row Taper: Grey Culver (Vitamin G) Setlist: 01. //With My Own Two Hands 02. Ground On Down 03. Forgiven 04. Gold To Me 05. Please Don't Talk About Murder While I'm Eating 06. Diamonds On The Inside > 07. Tomorrow Is A Long Time * 08. Steal My Kisses 09. Don't Take That Attitude To Your Grave 10. Waiting For You 11. Dazed and Confused @ 12. Black Rain > 13. Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) > Black Rain # 14. Burn One Down 15. Better Way Notes: * Bob Dylan cover @ Led Zeppelin cover featuring John Paul Jones # Marvin Gaye cover $ Bob Marley & the Wailers cover featuring Ziggy Marley & two of Ziggy's backup singers The Innocent Criminals: Juan Nelson - bass Michael Ward - guitar Leon Mobley - percussion Oliver Charles - drums Jason Yates - keys ------------------------------- |

No worries, I didnt mean to come off as I thought you were complaining...
I like what you have done with the files. Better job than I did I can admit. Man if you waited four hours for the superjam and were front row do you recognise me?? In my avatar I'm not Leon Mobly, but the guy who looks like he would stand out in a crowd. Did you see me there? There were only like 10-20 people waiting for the first two hours. |
